Labor and Delivery

Early Monday morning, on July 6th, at 2:27 am I woke up with cramps. I decided to wait an hour to see if they went away and if not I would wake up Brian. Around 3:30 am I was still having cramps and started bleeding. I called the doctor and I was told to go to the hospital. We arrived at the hospital at 4:30 am. At 5:30 am I was still only 1.5 cm dilated, but having contractions every 3 to 4 minutes. I was told to walk around for an hour to see how I progressed and they would send me home if I was not any further along. Brian and walked the hallways for an hour and I started to have much more painful contractions. After being rechecked I was admitted. The doctor wanted to start pitocin to get things moving along faster and then she needed to break my water. She asked if I wanted the epidural and I gladly accepted! After that, everything was great and painless! My mom, brother, Brian's mom and Rick came to the hospital around 1:00 pm. Around 2:30 pm I was told I was 4 cm dilated and two very short hours later I was at 10 cm and ready to start pushing. On July 6, 2009, at 4:35 pm, after 45 minutes of pushing we had a beautiful baby girl...

Sorry for the delay...

Since I haven't updated the blog or posted a "Week 41" picture I hope you all assume I had the baby. If so, you're right!

I wanted to thank everyone who has stopped by, made dinner, sent gifts and cards and has done anything else that has made our lives easier this past week. I am going to TRY and send out thank you cards, but if I never get around to it please know how thankful I am for your generosity!

Week 40

It's hard to say for sure how big your baby will be, but the average newborn weighs about 7 1/2 pounds (a small pumpkin) and is about 20 inches long. His skull bones are not yet fused, which allows them to overlap a bit if it's a snug fit through the birth canal during labor. This so-called "molding" is the reason your baby's noggin may look a little conehead-ish after birth. Rest assured — it's normal and temporary.
